LANGUAGE CONTACTS AND LANGUAGE LEGISLATION IN GERMAN-SPEAKING COUNTRIES
Edlichko A. I.
The paper deals with some issues of the legal status of the German language in the German-speaking countries and its consolidation as an official language in the legal national documents. The analysis of legal documents reveals three legislative models regulating the definition of the national and/or official status of the language the model of the legally unfixed national and/or official language; the one-component model, or the model of legitimate monolingualism; the three- and four-component model, or the model of legitimate multilingualism. The results of a brief analysis of the dynamics of changes in the legislation governing the status of minority and regional languages of the largest German-speaking countries are also presented.
