Problems of language forecasting are not priority areas of linguistics. Some researchers are critical of the very possibility of predicting the development of a language. The goal of this work is an attempt, based on an analysis of the current situation of the languages of the Finno-Ugric peoples of Russia, to present their functional state in the future and the possibility of preserving as an instrument of ethnic identity.
