Рассматривается жизненный путь и научная деятельность выдающегося ученого-фольклориста, гэсэроведа, поэта А. И. Уланова (28.03.1909–18.10.2000), внесшего огромный вклад в изучение устно-поэтического творчества бурят, становление и развитие науки о фольклоре в Бурятии. Особо отмечается роль ученого как патриота родной культуры в идеологической борьбе в защиту главного бурятского улигера – «Абай Гэсэр» в 1948–1953 гг., а также значимость научного обоснования правомерности 1000-летнего юбилея бурятской Гэсэриады.
THE PATH TO TRUTH UNDER THE SIGN OF GESER (TO THE 115TH ANNIVERSARY OF A. I. ULANOV)

The life path and scientific activity of the outstanding folklorist, Geserologist, and poet A. I. Ulanov (03.28.1909–10.18.2000), who made a huge contribution to the study of oral and poetic creativity of the Buryats and the formation and development of folklore studies in Buryatia, is considered. Particular attention is paid to the role of the scientist as a patriot of his native culture in the ideological struggle in defense of the main Buryat Uliger “Abai Geser” in 1948–1953, as well as the significance of the scientific substantiation of the legitimacy of the 1000th anniversary of the Buryat Geseriad.
